Getting to the Bottom of Nighttime Eating

How often do you walk by a mirror and cringe? Or, maybe you try to avoid catching glimpses of yourself in mirrors altogether because they make you feel bad. I hear this scenario from many of my clients.

One client in particular was feeling fat and wasn’t comfortable in her body. When we first started working together, she wanted to feel more confident in her own skin and also wanted to stop sabotaging herself at night and on the weekends. For some reason she couldn’t stop herself from snacking or binging on Nutella sandwiches, bags of chips, multiple cookies, or ice cream, even though she wasn’t actually hungry. (Although often she wasn’t actually sure if she was hungry or not.) She would feel a hungry sensation in her stomach but it wouldn’t make sense since she had eaten a full meal a short time earlier, so how could she actually be hungry?

After just one session she started to realize she would experience the “hunger” feeling when she was feeling unsettled at night, which made her feel like she had ants in her pants. We identified that feeling was previously created to protect her and was driving her to eat after everyone went to sleep.

The first session in Truce with Food helped identify the protective story that’s been leading to her unaligned eating choices and the homework provided a tool that already started helping her break her autopilot eating!

This is just the first step to gaining clarity of what’s behind your lack of willpower and self-sabotage. By gaining awareness, your stops to Walgreens for chips, cookies and ice cream will decrease to the point you’ll forget it’s even there.

The best part is that it won’t be because you have to resist eating those foods. It’ll be because you won’t NEED them anymore! (And if you still want them from time to time, you can have them!)

Three sessions in this client has not only lost some weight, but she no longer feels the need to restrict her food intake, she’s working out consistently (which she was avoiding doing before) and overall feels in control of food for the first time in a long time!

So, if you’re tired, worn out and are sick of losing hope, there is another option! Schedule a free 30-minute Q&A session discuss your goals, where you’re feeling stuck, the type of support you’re looking for and I’ll answer all the questions you have. Many people have shared their deepest secrets so I don’t judge and not much surprises me. You’re secrets are safe with me! Together, we’ll decide which program is right for you so you can finally get to the bottom of why you’re not able to consistently stay on track. (Hint: More willpower and self-control are not the answer!)
