“Stillness is not about focusing on nothingness; it’s about creating a clearing. It’s opening up an emotionally clutter-free space and allowing ourselves to feel and think and dream and question.”
I love this quote from Brené Brown’s book, “The Gift’s of Imperfection.” Many of my clients are in automatic pilot around food and other areas of their lives. As a result they often don’t stop to check in and just be with themselves and their feelings because it can be uncomfortable. I know that’s what I used to do because feeling discomfort felt scary, uncertain and unsafe. Cue mindless eating!
The next excerpt in the book reads:
“Once we can let go of our assumptions about what stillness is supposed to look like and find a way to create a clearing that works for us, we stand a better chance of opening ourselves up and confronting the next barrier to stillness: fear.”
Often what we resist continues to fester and turns into stress, anxiety or fear. When we can first understand what we’re experiencing and then sit with, digest and process it, things start to shift and we experience relief and freedom. As a result, our food choices and eating will fall in alignment with the way we want and it’s easier to reach our goals, keep our willpower up and end the self-sabotage.
Coffee on Me
If you’re ready to break the automatic pilot around food and start to understand what you’re experiencing, let me buy you coffee! On Friday, August 3rd I’m offering a limited number of FREE, no obligation 45-minute coffee dates. These dates are for anyone who is sick of trying to figure this “food thing” out on their own. If you’re feeling stuck and keep telling yourself you’ll start tomorrow, let’s chat!
During the coffee date we can meet in person (coffee/tea on me!) or via Zoom/the phone and you can bring your own mug. If you’re interested you can reserve your spot using this link. Additional information will be sent upon registration.
